It's really a matter of opinion. Get a guitar that feels comfortable to play for you. Sound-wise, you would like humbuckers. Single-coils have a slim, and you probably want something with a little more balls. By e-mail a guitar solo from someone on a budget, try the Epiphone Les Paul Special. It is very, very cheap, and feels good and sounds.
Yamaha Pacifica is probably best. Guitar budget is much better than all the cheap Squier and Ibanez RG dice
